Lawyer, engineer, pediatrician. What made it to the top among applicants to universities in the Vitebsk region this year
What specialties were in particularly high demand this year among applicants entering universities in the Vitebsk region, a BELTA correspondent was told by the admissions committees of universities in the northern region.
The admission campaign is still ongoing in higher education institutions, but among future students are already those who applied for budget places. At Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov, 743 people were admitted for free education. This year, there was an unprecedented rush for the specialty "international law" at VSU. The competition here was 11.5 applicants per place. For "jurisprudence" at the same law faculty, the competition was almost half as low - 5.8 applicants per place. "This year we have completely filled the allocated places for target students - 199 applicants were admitted under a target agreement," noted the responsible secretary of the university's admissions committee, Olga Lyubchenko.
This year, applicants have shown more interest in engineering specialties, and representatives of the higher technical school believe that early career guidance and the work of specialized classes have contributed to this result. The responsible secretary of the admissions committee of Vitebsk State Technological University, Ekaterina Goncharova, shared that the number of those wishing to obtain engineering specialties has increased significantly compared to previous years. "In our university, there is traditionally high demand for the design faculty. The overall competition here was about 4 applicants per place. We noticed that students were also interested in the specialty for which enrollment resumed this year - "engineering economics," with a competition of 1.6 applicants per place," she said.
The design specialty was popular this year at Polotsk State University named after Euphrosyne of Polotsk. "For budget daytime education, we have admitted 604 people. Traditionally, the specialty "design of the object-spatial environment" was very popular among applicants to our university, with a competition of about 4.75 applicants per place. The interest of high school graduates in IT specialties remains high, and this year we also observed demand for a new specialty - "modern foreign languages," noted the responsible secretary of the admissions committee of PSU, Pavel Soldatenko.
This year, Vitebsk State Medical University of the Order of Friendship of Peoples was "stormed" by those wishing to enter the pediatric faculty. "We have met all the control figures for admission to budget education. Overall, the competition at the university was more than 2 applicants per place, while for the pediatric faculty it was 5.1 applicants per place," shared the responsible secretary of the admissions committee of VGMU, Elena Gusakova.
Until August 1, admission for paid education will continue in the region's universities.
