XXIII International Chess Tournament "Orsha-2025" gathered about 300 athletes from different regions of Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan.
- The status of the tournament at the sports institution "Hockey Club 'Lokomotiv-Orsha'" is quite serious. Over 23 years, it has gained authority in the chess community worldwide, – noted the chief judge of the competitions, international arbiter Anatoly Lebedev. – Group A is an open tournament with FIDE rating calculation, group B is an open tournament for everyone without FIDE rating calculation, in groups C, D, E, F – young chess players born from 2011 to 2017. The program also includes a blitz tournament and a tempo tournament, as well as a simultaneous play session with grandmasters. The competitions are individual-team based on the Swiss system in 9 rounds according to the current rules. This is a democratic tournament that allows people of all ages to play and showcase their skills.
Notably, this year, 40 residents of Orsha participated in the tournament. One of them is Glebov Denis, who played in group B.
– I have been engaged in this intellectual sport since the first grade for 10 years now, – the young man shared. – What is interesting here is that every child, no matter if you are 6 years old or 15, can play on equal terms with renowned grandmasters. There are many who, at a young age, already have trophies from European and world tournaments. I also hope for victory.
For the athletes, the organizers prepared a rich cultural program with visits to significant places in the region.
