Водитель, сбивший в Орше пешехода, привлечен к ответственности

The driver who hit a pedestrian in Orsha has been held accountable

In the evening, under street lighting, a driver approaching a pedestrian crossing noticed a dog of the toy terrier breed but did not see its owner. As a result, the paths of the car and the pedestrian crossed, and the driver's inattention led the victim to a hospital bed with serious bodily injuries, while the driver himself ended up in the dock.

The actions of the accused were qualified as a violation of traffic rules by a person operating a vehicle, resulting in the negligent infliction of serious bodily harm.

At the suggestion of the state prosecutor, taking into account that the accused sincerely repented of his actions and took other measures to mitigate the harm caused by the crime provided for in part 2 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, the court sentenced him to two years and six months of restriction of freedom without sending him to an open-type correctional institution, with deprivation of the right to operate vehicles for five years.

The convicted person will also have to compensate the victim for moral damages and expenses for his treatment in a healthcare institution.

To avoid tragedy on the road, it is desirable to wish drivers of cars and motorcycles, cyclists and pedestrians, and individuals using means of individual mobility to strictly adhere to the Traffic Rules, to be attentive, cautious, not to take thoughtless actions, and to follow the principle: safety above all!
