On the eve of Victory Day, a photo exhibition “Roads of Memory. Saint Petersburg – Vitebsk” opened in Vitebsk.
On the eve of Victory Day, a photo exhibition titled "On the Roads of Memory. Saint Petersburg – Vitebsk" was opened in the concert hall "Vitebsk" in the regional center, organized as part of the project "Unforgotten."
The centerpiece of the exhibition features works by Valentina Kabachevskaya, a native of Vitebsk, who currently resides in Saint Petersburg. On her way home, she stopped by monuments and visited localities where military burials are located. Thus, the idea of the exhibition was born — to showcase the sacred places along the road of memory.
– The photographs capture not the iconic, well-known memorials, but graves and monuments that are set far from crowded places and major highways. All of them are well-maintained. It is evident that in this small locality, people remember the great feat of Soviet soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom and peaceful sky, – noted Gleb Lapitsky, a member of the Council of the Republic and the general director of the Culture Center "Vitebsk."
The exhibition also includes photographs from residents of Vitebsk who brought pictures of soldiers' burials taken during visits to relatives and outings into nature in various corners of Vitebsk region. By the way, during the exhibition's run (until May 15), it can be supplemented with new testimonies on the "Road of Memory."
– The "Unforgotten" campaign unites people. On the opening day of the exhibition, there were many young faces present. I am confident that in the following days, youth will continue to come here, carrying the torch of memory with dignity, – emphasized Gleb Lapitsky.
