In Orsha, a book titled “Unknown pages of the war are opened by deputies of the Belarusian Parliament” was presented.
At the Central Library named after A.S. Pushkin in Orsha, a presentation of the book "Unknown Pages of War Opened by Deputies of the Belarusian Parliament" took place. The book was prepared and published at the initiative of the members of the primary organization of the Republican Public Association "Belaya Rus'" of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
The publication continues the tradition of documentary narration, where the history of Belarus is shown through the prism of individual fates of the direct participants of the tragic and heroic events of the Great Patriotic War. The value of the presented book lies in the fact that it has managed to return from oblivion several dozen names of those to whom we owe our lives. This is a true feat of memory!
It is worth noting that the publication includes materials about our fellow countryman – participant of the Great Patriotic War Petkevich Georgy Vasilievich. His life is an example of resilience and courage. Georgy Vasilievich was the chairman of the Orsha City Executive Committee from June 27, 1944. Under his leadership, Orsha was restored after the war. These were incredibly difficult years.
The event was attended by the deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Mikhno, the daughter of Georgy Vasilievich, co-author of the book "Memory. Historical and Documentary Chronicle of Orsha and the Orsha District" and author of the chapter "At the Crossroads of Roads, at the Turn of Millennia" Tamara Ignatieva, chairwoman of the Orsha District Organization of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans Zinaida Khaychenko, local historian, photographer, film and video operator Eduard Navogonsky, member of the Youth Council under the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Marina Mironova, as well as representatives of the student youth and the older generation.
Alexander Mikhno spoke about how the material for the publication was collected, shared his impressions of the book, and also donated copies to the Central Library named after A.S. Pushkin, Tamara Ignatieva, and Eduard Navogonsky. The deputy emphasized that in Belarus, everything possible is being done to preserve historical memory so that the younger generation treats the past with respect and honor.
The participants of the event listened attentively to Tamara Georgievna's speech. She spoke warmly and with trepidation about her father. In her memory, he remained a person who loved his family and his city very much.
The book "Unknown Pages of War Opened by Deputies of the Belarusian Parliament" can now be found at the Central Library named after A.S. Pushkin.
