The Orthodox Book Festival opened in Orsha

The XII festival of Orthodox book "On the Paths of Orthodoxy" has opened at the Central Library named after A. S. Pushkin, dedicated to the Day of Orthodox Book (celebrated annually on March 14).

Clerics from Orsha churches, representatives of the creative intelligentsia, and college students participated in the event. They were welcomed by the head of the culture department of the Orsha District Executive Committee, Alina Bokhorova, who emphasized the enduring value of Orthodox books and the importance of spiritual enlightenment. The archpriest of the Central Deanery of the city of Orsha, Father Dmitry Savushkin, spoke about the history of the holiday, how the first book in Belarus was created, and the benefits of reading spiritual literature.

This year, the event is timed to the 60th anniversary of the death and the 20th anniversary of the glorification of Blessed Valentina of Minsk, the 865th anniversary of the creation of the Cross by Master Lazar Bogsha of the Blessed Euphrosyne of Polotsk, the 910th anniversary of the repose of Saint Mina, Bishop of Polotsk, and the 125th anniversary of the birth and the 80th anniversary of the repose of the Holy Martyr Seraphim (Shakhmut), Archimandrite of Zhirovichi.

The atmosphere of spiritual values, traditions, and customs, love for one's people and homeland was enhanced by performances of the chamber choir "Gloria" (conductor Anna Smirnova), the children's exemplary choir "CANTARE" of the School of Arts No. 1 (conductor Valentina Karzhitskaya), and festival guests Elena Avanesova, Alexander Purenkov, and priest Alexander.

As part of the festival "On the Paths of Orthodoxy", spiritual meetings, thematic evenings, Orthodox lessons, book presentations, and discussions with clergy will take place in all libraries of the district.
