In Orsha, work has begun on widening the roadway on Mira Street
In Orsha, active work has begun on the widening of the roadway on Mira Street near the railway overpass at the border of the Eastern and Cheryomushki microdistricts. In addition to extra lanes, the construction of an underground pedestrian crossing is planned here.
This problematic section has been a concern for drivers for many years, and the number of cars in the city is increasing. During peak hours, significant traffic jams occur near the overpass due to the relatively narrow passage under it. A decision has been made to widen the roadway by relocating pedestrian sidewalks to the underground crossing under the railway tracks and organizing an additional lane for vehicle traffic.
The project is being implemented by the Minsk construction company POOO "DIST". A construction site has already been set up at the location, and preparatory earthworks began last week. Ahead lies the most complex part of the project – the relocation of existing engineering networks, of which there are many in this extensive area.
Reconstruction of water supply networks, domestic sewage, stormwater drainage networks, outdoor lighting, power supply, telephone cable ducts, and fiber optic communication networks is planned. They will be rerouted around the planned underground crossing, which will run through the existing stormwater drainage tunnel.
– To create the underground crossing, we must relocate all communications and free the tunnel for further work on its arrangement, – said Alexander Lyakhovich, a master of construction and installation works at POOO "DIST", to a journalist from "Arshanskaya Gazeta". – At the same time, it is necessary to direct the engineering networks around the site to begin the widening of the roadway. For this, a bore will be made under the road near house No. 46 on Mira Street. From there, the communications will go to the other side and then next to the underground crossing. Three more bores are planned under the railway, and before that, the railway workers will strengthen the tracks.
The roadway will be widened not only under the overpass but also further from it to the intersection with Pogranichnaya Street and the regulated pedestrian crossing in Cheryomushki. This is necessary for the convenience of vehicle passage in the conditions of neighboring intersections. Some trees have been removed, and later the lighting masts and traffic lights will be dismantled, where the roadway will be located, and new ones will be installed afterward. During the construction, traffic under the overpass is not planned to be completely closed; it will be regulated as work progresses.
The underground crossing will feature covered pavilions at the exit, as well as lifting devices for physically challenged citizens.
According to the builders' calculations, the main volume of work will take place in the spring-summer, and they plan to complete the project by the end of the year under favorable conditions. Journalists from "Arshanki" will monitor the progress of the work.
