In the finale of the Vitebsk school theatre competition, 10 performances will be presented in Belarusian.
The finalists of the Vitebsk city competition "Stage Readings 'School Theater'", which will take place on April 21-22, will present 10 performances in Belarusian and based on works by domestic authors. This was reported to the BELTA correspondent by the National Academic Dramatic Theater named after Yakub Kolas (NADT).
The solemn opening of the competition final will take place on April 21 at the theater. Throughout the day, troupes from schools, gymnasiums, and institutions of additional education for children and youth in Vitebsk will showcase their performances.
Young actors aged 10 to 18 will present to the jury performances based on the works of classics - Yanka Kupala, Aleksey Dudarev, Yan Borshchevsky, Vladimir Korotkevich, modern Belarusian writers, as well as original performances prepared by the leaders of theater circles. "The competition will be held for the 28th time. It has already become a tradition to present performances in one of our national languages on stage. In this way, we promote both the Belarusian language and domestic literature, engaging youth in the rich cultural heritage of the country. At the qualifying rounds held in the city's schools, jury members not only selected the best school performances but also provided the kids with useful advice on how to improve their productions, what else can be worked on, and how to perform on stage," NADT representatives said, which will celebrate its 100th theater season in the fall of 2026.
Together with the leaders of their circles, boys and girls prepared costumes, decorations, and selected musical accompaniment. In the final stage, not only the best actors and directors will be recognized in various nominations, but also the completeness of the disclosure of civic-patriotic and youth themes, and the best debutant will be named.
The next day, April 22, competition participants will be able to attend the performance "The Marriage of Bal'zaminov" by the educational theater of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts. After that, the organizers of the creative competition will present the deserved awards to the winners.
