Increase the distance, avoid sudden maneuvers. The traffic police reminded about safety rules in fog

The Minsk City Executive Committee reminded the main safety rules on the road in foggy weather, reports BELTA.

"The main factors that lead to traffic accidents during fog are insufficient visibility and distortion of perception of distance to vehicles and obstacles. To reduce the likelihood of road incidents, all road users must exercise maximum attention and strictly adhere to the traffic rules. Pedestrians should also not forget about reflective elements," noted the road guardians.

Among the main preventive measures for drivers, the traffic police indicated choosing speed based on visibility, increasing the distance to the vehicle ahead, turning on low beam headlights, and if necessary - fog lights. "High beam in fog is useless and worsens visibility. Additionally, avoid sharp lane changes and braking, drive cautiously. If movement is impossible - stop outside the roadway, turn on the hazard lights. Near pedestrian crossings, be especially attentive, as pedestrians become less visible," emphasized the law enforcement officers.  

Pedestrians should cross the road only at designated places, ensuring it is safe to enter the roadway. It is essential to use reflectors, vests, or accessories to be visible in low visibility conditions. "Be extremely attentive and careful, do not get distracted by gadgets. Before crossing the road, remove headphones and lower hoods to hear and see approaching vehicles"
