The Department of Internal Affairs of the Orsha district executive committee continues active countermeasures against cybercrime
The fight against so-called drops – front persons to whom stolen funds are credited – remains relevant in the field of combating cybercrime.
Most often, the services of such individuals are needed to obtain shadow income, including as a result of credit card fraud. Citizens register them and SIM cards in their name for a reward, and then hand them over to drop organizers, i.e., individuals who organize the search for drops.
After passing through a drop, the stolen funds are cashed out, transferred to certain individuals, who then move them across the border or hand them over to the organizers.
In 2024, employees of the cybercrime prevention department of the Orsha district executive committee stopped the activities of 29 drops and drop organizers. All individuals who wished to earn money in this way have been brought to criminal responsibility under Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (illegal turnover of payment means and instruments).
The punishment under this article provides for imprisonment for a term of 3 to 10 years.
