A year-long volunteer day. At the Vitebsk Region Media Center, they discussed the events of the Beautification Year
The regional plan of events for the Year of Improvement includes numerous labor actions and detachments aimed at improving memorials, commemorative and landmark sites, and greening the territories of settlements. The repair and arrangement of the street and road network, parking lots, and playgrounds will continue. Important directions include ensuring the operation of water supply systems, involving unused land plots into economic circulation, and restoring order at production facilities. Ongoing and upcoming matters were discussed at the press conference "Improvement with an Emphasis on Quality" at the Media Center of the Vitebsk Region.
Improvement is a common cause that everyone should mobilize for. Only together can we create and preserve a comfortable, cozy, and beautiful living environment around us.

The ongoing month of improvement in the Vitebsk region will conclude with a Republican Saturday. The collected funds will be transferred to the construction of the National Historical Museum of Belarus.
The opening of the flag and coat of arms square in the regional center will take place as part of the celebration of the Day of the State Flag, State Coat of Arms, and State Anthem of the Republic of Belarus.
In commemoration of the nomination of Orsha for the honorary title of the CIS "City of Labor Glory. 1941 – 9545 years." the square and the stele "Orsha – City of Labor Glory" will be beautified.
Calculated until December
– The schedule for the improvement of landmark objects in the region has been approved – at least one per month, – reported Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Dmitry Petrusha. – It is calculated until December. The events are aimed at greening the territories, developing parks and squares, improving memorial sites, and recreational areas – eco-trails, springs.
Thus, in spring, a square will be laid in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory in Chashniki, a park with a Memory Alley at the Glory Mound in the Glubokoe District. Hundreds of trees will be planted at the memorial complex "Fifth Regiment" in Vitebsk, and in June a sign will be opened here in memory of the victims of the genocide of the Belarusian people. In May, a monument will be installed at the military burial site in the village of Paulie in the Ushachsky District…
This is a basic plan that may be supplemented with other events during its implementation.
Vitebsk Region will not be limited to the spring Republican Saturday. Throughout the year, they will be organized at all levels, from regional to district and city levels.
Inviting to cooperate
– We plan to repair 1.3 million square meters of roads, which is almost 30% more than the actual figure for 2023, – reminded the head of the main department of housing and communal services of the regional executive committee Yuri Dyadelo of the tasks for the street and road network of settlements. – We will replace 13.7 thousand LED lamps. This provides savings of 50-60% in energy conservation and ensures better lighting.
In the region, it is planned to build 11 new iron removal stations, 195 mini-stations, as well as equip 25 and repair more than 280 children's sports and playgrounds.
Many residents of the multi-apartment housing stock are not against participating in restoring order in the territories of their homes. Communal services are ready to meet them halfway, providing working tools, soil, transport, and planting material. To organize cooperation, initiators can contact their housing maintenance organizations.
Ecologists on alert
– The plans for the Year of Improvement in the northern region are grand: the planting of 30 thousand trees, 28 thousand shrubs, and 3.5 million seedlings of flowers is planned, – emphasized the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Anna Galuzo. – All districts have actively joined the work. A Unified Day of Greening will take place. It is time to renew the trees planted in the yards by representatives of the military and post-war generations.
Creating a favorable living environment is not only about planting greenery. It implies conducting environmental protection actions, including with the participation of public ecologists: "Let's Do It", "Clean Forest", "Clean Water Body".
We are strengthening efforts to prevent the formation and elimination of unauthorized dumps, burning of dry vegetation, and compliance with the regimes of economic activity in water protection zones and coastal strips.
On citizens' proposals
– The most important and valuable aspect of civic initiative projects is that their authors and implementers are the people themselves, – noted the director of the executive directorate of the regional Association of Local Councils of Deputies Ekaterina Lazovskaya. – All of them have social significance, 90% are related to improvement.
In 2024, 23 projects were submitted for consideration by the association, 16 were recognized as the best, and they have already been implemented on the ground. In 2025, 64 projects were presented, 15 of which will receive funding of about 400 thousand rubles for implementation. Which ones exactly will be known in the coming days.
Addresses of transformations
– In the district, a decision was made to assign organizations to lands of common use, village councils, and military burials, – reported the chairwoman of the Orsha District Executive Committee Inna Khomutovskaya. – Ten landmark places have been identified for conducting district Saturdays. Among them: Heroes Park, Coat of Arms and Flag Square, Yakubovsky Park, beach in the urban settlement of Kopyss.
Improvement will affect significant objects such as the children's park, the beach on Kороткевича Street, and the bridge on Shklovskaya Street in the district center. The construction of a patriotic club will continue. By the district festival-fair of rural workers, the agrotown Smoliany will be transformed.
Responding to requests
– Local authorities are conducting extensive explanatory work with the population to involve them in the implementation of the tasks of the Year of Improvement, – said the chairman of the Lepel District Council of Deputies Igor Urban. – We want the residents of our region to be proud of their history. For this purpose, a monumental monument is being installed in the village of Borovka in honor of the cadets and commanders of the local infantry and mortar schools who took on the heavy battles of 1941.
In the same Borovka, a beach is needed: in summer, more than a hundred people rest daily at Lake Shchibot. We are conducting preparatory work to grant official status to the spontaneous recreation area. We have cleaned the bottom, installed containers for garbage collection, changing rooms, and other improvement elements – all at the expense of self-taxation funds.
To minimize heavy manual labor, a sweeping and cleaning machine and a communal vacuum cleaner have been purchased for the district. It has become easier and faster to restore order, and we can attract freed people to work in other areas.
