Medical students from Belarus and Kyrgyzstan are doing an internship at the Novopolotsk Hospital as part of the "MediKus" project
The Republican medical labor project "Medicus" has been implemented at the Novopolotsk Central City Hospital for the third year now. This summer, its participants included students from medical universities, students from medical colleges in Belarus, as well as students from the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University named after B. Yeltsin.
59 young men and women, representing 9 linear student teams, arrived in the oil city to practically become part of a friendly team of healthcare workers in the region for almost two months. Future medics worked as nurses, male nurses, and orderlies at the Novopolotsk Central City Hospital and the Polotsk Regional Hospital. Primarily, they aimed to gain invaluable experience, consolidate practical skills, and get acquainted with the organization of work.
– The teams of our institutions, where the student brigade members came, are very pleased that such responsible and caring guys are entering medicine. Everyone worked selflessly, clearly fulfilling all the duties assigned to them. Although it was sometimes not easy for them, they managed everything, – noted Igor Muzhichenko, the deputy chief physician of the Novopolotsk Central City Hospital.
– For us, this was a completely new direction in the student brigade movement. We took our first steps with excitement. If in 2023 a little more than 30 guys came to Novopolotsk, this year there are 60. It’s great that our Belarusian student brigades are joined by guys from other countries. I am confident that interest in this direction will continue to grow, and the geography will expand, – emphasized the commander of the republican headquarters of student brigades, Nadezhda Shakhnovskaya.
The idea for the "Medicus" project was born among the representatives of the BRSM in 2023. Future medics, inspired by the example of the guys participating in the All-Belarusian Youth Construction in Astravets, and the projects "Atlant", "Tolochin", at MAZ, MTZ, proposed to organize their own – medical. The initiative was supported by the ministries of health, education, and the authorities of Novopolotsk and the Polotsk district.
Opinions
Daria Melnychenko, commander of the republican medical labor project "Medicus-2025":
– I am a graduate of the Gomel State Medical College. This year I received a diploma in the specialty "paramedic-midwife, assistant doctor" and decided to spend the summer here. I worked as a nurse in the procedural room of the children's clinic. This is invaluable experience, as finding a common language with little ones is worth a lot. The project taught me a lot and even tempered me, so I will start my duties at my first job without fear and anxiety.
Violetta Tashmetova, commissioner of the student medical brigade "Lazurit" (Kyrgyz Republic):
– I am a student of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University named after B. Yeltsin. I worked in the general therapy department as a procedural nurse. I performed numerous various injections, catheter placements, and blood transfusions. This is a unique experience. We also had a great time during our free time. We participated in competitions, off-site events, and went on excursions.
It’s amazing here: a new culture, color, food, and very friendly people.
Artem Mandik, commander of the medical brigade "Synaps" named after Hero of the Soviet Union L. Kravets (Grodno Medical University):
– I am a fourth-year student of the "therapeutic business" faculty. Here we received everything we lacked in our student brigade life in previous years: healthy competition with the guys and new acquaintances. I worked as a ward nurse in the cardiology department during the project. Of course, it was not always easy, adaptation was necessary, but it was worth it.
