Modern men in the images of gentlemen of the 19th–20th centuries. An unusual photo exhibition opened in Vitebsk

In the Vitebsk Regional Local History Museum, a photo exhibition "Strength. Reliability. Responsibility" has opened, where the main characters are modern men who have been "reformatted" into gentlemen of the 19th - 20th centuries, reports BELTA correspondent. 

The exhibition is a continuation of the project "City and Citizens", within which previous exhibitions "Not Just a Mom", "Phenomenon of Time", "Witnesses of the Era", "YES! Vitebsk Style" were presented. The exhibition "Strength. Reliability. Responsibility" tells the story of those who are used to taking responsibility and not shying away from difficulties - representatives of local authorities, heads of enterprises, educators, cultural workers, and many others. As the organizers noted, a real man is reluctant to share emotions. Nevertheless, the author of the exhibition managed to capture in the expressions of the eyes, half-smiles, sternness, and sometimes detachment the stories of fates and the characters of his heroes. Each of the presented photographs is a portrait against the backdrop of time.

"We immersed men in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. We fitted them with a cane, tailcoat, and scarf. Then we passed the images through artificial intelligence to give each portrait a title," said museum director Tatyana Starinskaya.
"Keeper of the Inner Fire", "Man-Tradition", "Architect of Fate", "Symphony of Duty" - these and many other captions adorned the portraits. There are a total of 60, each evoking great admiration from the exhibition guests. The own images were especially liked by the men.

"Of course, people are shown from an interesting angle. The captions hit the mark, characterizing the image. Each of the presented people is an artist at heart. People play in the era, and they succeed," shared impressions about the exhibition Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Vyacheslav Durnov. 

It was also visited by the Chairman of the State Control Committee of the Vitebsk Region Vladimir Godyatsky. "Our cultural figures never cease to amaze. They create wonders on ordinary canvases. The charisma and character of all the characters are conveyed. I also liked my portrait," he said. 

"In addition to the leader, the professional person depicted in the portraits, we also see loving fathers, husbands, grandfathers, friends, real men," said Marina Novitskaya, Chairwoman of the Vitebsk Regional Organization of the Public Association "Belarusian Union of Women". 

The exhibition "Strength. Reliability. Responsibility" is a successful attempt by the museum not only to introduce the city to those who undoubtedly deserve gratitude for their work but also to preserve the faces of these people in the collections, thus continuing the long chronicle of Vitebsk history.

"In 50-100 years, our descendants will look at these portraits because everything that enters the museum is eternal storage," added Tatyana Starinskaya. 

The partners of the Vitebsk Regional Local History Museum in creating the exhibition project were the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee and the Vitebsk Regional Organization of the Public Association "Belarusian Union of Women".
