Prevention of child passenger injuries under special control of the Orshansk State Traffic Inspection

Since the beginning of the year, one traffic accident has been registered in Orsha, in which a minor passenger was injured.

To draw attention to the problem of child passenger injuries and to promote the use of special child restraint devices and seat belts, employees of the traffic police department of the Orsha district executive committee will conduct a series of events in the region. From February 15 to 16 there will be a preventive event "Belted Children – Saved Lives!". Following this, a nationwide preventive campaign "If You Love, Drive Safely!" will take place from February 17 to 21.

The traffic police remind drivers that the rules for transporting children in a vehicle are established in paragraph 178 of the traffic rules. According to this, in a passenger car, the transportation of children under the age of 5 must be done using child restraint devices that correspond to the weight and height of the child, that is, in child seats. Children aged 5 to 12 can be transported either in child seats or using other devices, such as special seat cushions or boosters provided by the vehicle's design. These allow the child to be secured with seat belts. However, there is an exception. It is allowed to transport children under the age of 12 without using the specified devices if the child's height exceeds 150 centimeters. In this case, the child must be secured with a seat belt.

Compliance with these rules will be monitored by traffic police inspectors during preventive activities.
