The main tasks of the inspection are:

1. implementation, within its competence, of state governance in the field of environmental protection and rational use of natural resources;
2. control in the field of environmental protection, rational use of natural resources, carried out:
   • in the form of inspections in the order established by legislation on control (supervisory) activities, in the areas:
     • protection, preservation, reproduction and use of wild animals and wild‑growing plants that are included in the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus, woody‑shrub vegetation and other wild‑growing plants within the boundaries of settlements, wild animals that are not objects of hunting and fishing;
     • use and protection of subsoil;
     • protection of atmospheric air and ozone layer;
     • use and protection of water;
     • waste management;
     • other forms of control provided by legislation;
3. coordination of the activities of territorial and other subdivisions of other state administration bodies, local executive and administrative bodies, organizations in the field of ensuring environmental safety, environmental protection and rational use of natural resources, including subsoil;
4. interaction within its competence with local executive and administrative bodies in solving environmental protection issues;
5. participation in the implementation of international, including cross‑border, cooperation on inspection activities;
6. providing state bodies, other organizations and citizens with environmental information, organizing propaganda of environmental knowledge, participation in creating a system of environmental education, training and upbringing, interaction with public organizations (associations).
