No violence in the family
📋 Useful documents
Violence can occur in a family regardless of social status, religious beliefs, or ethnic background of family members. Victims of domestic violence in a family can be both women and men.
Victim of domestic violence – a citizen who, as a result of domestic violence, suffers physical and/or psychological suffering.
Domestic violence – intentional illegal or immoral actions of a physical, psychological or sexual nature by close relatives, former spouses, citizens who have a common child (children), or other citizens who live (lived) together and run a common household, towards each other, causing physical and/or psychological suffering.
It is important to distinguish that violence has different manifestations, therefore several types of family violence are identified.
Psychological actions – impact on a citizen's psyche through threats, humiliation of honor and dignity, committing other immoral actions that objectively give the citizen reasons to fear for their safety or the safety of close persons.
Sexual actions – assault on sexual freedom or sexual integrity.
Physical actions – causing bodily injury, pain, suffering, inflicting beatings.
🏠 Temporary shelter service in a “crisis room”
In order to provide assistance to persons in a crisis situation (victims of human trafficking, persons suffering from violence, terrorist acts, technogenic disasters and natural catastrophes, orphaned children and children left without parental care), the State Institution “Territorial Center for Social Services of the Population of the Orsha district” (hereinafter – TCSON) provides a temporary shelter service in a “crisis room” of TCSON, as well as psychological, social and other types of assistance as needed.
The basis for receiving the temporary shelter service is a referral from labor, employment and social protection authorities, education, health, internal affairs, as well as an application on one's own initiative, followed by a psychologist's conclusion at TCSON about a high risk of domestic violence, a written statement of the applicant, registered in the prescribed manner. The decision to provide the temporary shelter service to a citizen is made by the director of TCSON by issuing the appropriate order.
You can obtain certificates for the temporary shelter service during working hours at phones 51-03-91, 54-03-48 or at the address:
- 43 Vladimir Lenin St., Orsha, offices No. 19, 5, 13 in the Department of Social Adaptation and Rehabilitation.
If a victim in need of the temporary shelter service wishes to be placed in a “crisis room” during non‑working and night hours, certificates are available at phones: 102, 51-83-77, +375 (29) 522-80-59.
List of rules that a person should know and follow in a situation of violence to protect themselves:
- If the aggressor begins an outburst of aggression, you need to hide in a room from which you can easily run out to the street. Under no circumstances lock yourself in the bathroom or kitchen.
- Call the police if you have a phone at hand; if not, shout, bang on walls so neighbors can hear.
- Come up with a control word and teach it to your relatives and children, tell friends about it. If you say this word, you must call the police. Or ask neighbors to call the police if they hear screams from your apartment.
- Have an automatic dial button on your mobile phone so you can call relatives or the police with one press.
- Keep an “emergency suitcase” in a known place: documents, some money, a copy of keys, a first‑aid kit, clothing. So that you can quickly take it if you need to flee the house. Or leave the suitcase with a person you can go to.
- Plan in advance places you can go and contacts of people you can turn to for help.
- If the situation becomes very dangerous, sometimes it is better to comply with the aggressor's demands.
Under no circumstances should you display retaliatory aggression. In such a case you only add fuel to the fire, which can lead to disaster!!!
A woman must also remember the children (if violence extends to a child, you must take the child's side!):
You need to teach the child that if the home situation worsens, they should lock themselves in their room or go outside (to neighbors, friends). In a difficult situation call the police;
The child should always have a mobile phone with an automatic dial function;
The child must not try to stop the violence: engage in a fight with the aggressor or try to protect the mother.
