Lukashenko: the country is always strong in traditions, one of them in Belarus is New Year greetings to children
Every country is strong in its traditions, and in Belarus one of the long-standing very good traditions is to congratulate children on the New Year holidays, including within the framework of the "Our Children" campaign. This was stated by the head of state Alexander Lukashenko at the Palace of the Republic while participating in a charity celebration, reports BELTA correspondent.
"A country is always strong in its traditions. If there are traditions, then there is a country. This means there is a certain uniqueness of this country," the President emphasized. It is precisely the presence of such traditions that distinguishes Belarus from other countries of the world, Alexander Lukashenko noted.
"A long time ago, we established a very good tradition - during these pre-New Year holidays to congratulate you, little ones, adults, your teachers, educators, parents - all those who have small children and who are involved in raising children. It is a good tradition to congratulate our children, to visit children. Especially those who are in great need of it. Although there are no children in the country, there are no children in the world who do not need attention and gifts," the head of state continued.
In this regard, the President expressed special gratitude to everyone who contributes to making this charity celebration for children possible every year. "I want to thank our adults," said Alexander Lukashenko. "Thank you for the attention you give to our children during these pre-New Year holidays."
The head of state particularly noted the joyful atmosphere in the hall: "Even a kilometer away from the Palace of the Republic, you can hear that you are having fun here." The good mood, according to him, is also explained by the fact that for children in the country now there is a "double" holiday: on one hand, everyone is bidding farewell to the outgoing year and waiting for the arrival of the new one, 2026, and on the other hand, students have finally awaited the pleasant time free from studies - the holidays. "Therefore, it is a double holiday. New Year and holidays," the President said.
"And Grandfather Frost and the Snow Maiden have already pleased us - snow, frost. They promise that there will be even more frost, and we will truly be able to celebrate the New Year this year like never before. Snow and frost at this time create a good mood. I see that you have this spirit present," the head of state noted.
The central event of the "Our Children" campaign is the main Christmas tree of the country - a charity New Year celebration with the participation of the President and a New Year performance at the Palace of the Republic. This year, a bright performance "The Magic of the New Year" with fairy-tale characters and the main attributes of winter holidays has been prepared for children.
About 2,400 children from all regions of Belarus are invited to the main Christmas tree at the Palace of the Republic. Students from cadet schools and specialized lyceums, winners of various Olympiads, creative competitions and contests, students who have successes in public work, orphans, children from large families and refugee families, and children affected by the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster have the opportunity to see the bright New Year performance.
