Lukashenko participated in the SCO summit in Tianjin
The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin. The international forum took place at the "Meijiang" conference center, reports BELTA correspondent.
On the eve in Tianjin, Alexander Lukashenko held talks with the Chairman of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, and in the evening attended a ceremonial reception in honor of the heads of delegations - participants of the meeting.
More than three dozen leaders of countries and heads of international organizations are participating in the international forum. Some of them were invited by the chairing Chinese side to participate in the summit in the "SCO plus" format. This year's summit is the largest in the history of the association.
Taking the opportunity, Alexander Lukashenko has already held more than a dozen informal meetings with foreign leaders on the sidelines of the international forum.
Belarus became a full member of the SCO just over a year ago, and this is the first summit in which the country participates in its new status. Belarus is among the ten member countries of the SCO along with India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
As previously reported by the press service of the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko will present proposals from the Belarusian side for further development of multifaceted cooperation within the "Shanghai family" during his speech at the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO, highlighting key issues that require increased attention.
Among the most important documents, the heads of state will adopt the Tianjin Declaration and approve the strategy for the development of the SCO for the next 10 years - until 2035. In addition, it is planned to consider a number of other issues in the areas of security, economic and humanitarian cooperation, adopt relevant decisions, joint statements, and sign intergovernmental agreements.
The signing of two intergovernmental agreements is expected - on the establishment of the SCO Anti-Drug Center and the Universal SCO Center for Countering Challenges and Threats to the Security of Member States.
The President of Belarus will also participate in the summit in the "SCO plus" format. The theme of this meeting of the leaders of the countries is: "Implementing multilateralism, ensuring regional security, and promoting sustainable development."
In an interview published the day before the visit with the China Media Corporation, Alexander Lukashenko spoke about how he assesses Belarus's membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization: "It is very important for us to be in this family. It inspires any nation, including the Belarusian, that their President is in this solid family."
He also emphasized that the members of the SCO are states that today largely determine the development of the planet. The core consists of powerful countries such as Russia, China, and India, around which other developed and advanced countries have gathered.
