Lukashenko outlined priorities for farmers, taking into account the specific climatic conditions of March
The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, while accepting personnel decisions on the formation of the government, inquired about the progress of spring field work, reports a BELTA correspondent.
During the event, the head of state addressed Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko, who oversees the activities of the agro-industrial complex, and noted the special climatic conditions for March, questioning how this would affect the timing and progress of agricultural work. "The weather is good. It seems we should sow. On the other hand… Is it too early? So it doesn't freeze. After all, it's mid-March," said Alexander Lukashenko. "In Brest, it's 18-19 degrees. What to do? We need to sow."
In response, the relevant Deputy Prime Minister explained that sowing work in some regions has already begun in accordance with previously determined and agreed structures of sowing various crops. Additionally, according to Yuri Shuleiko, this year the preparation of machinery and the procurement of mineral fertilizers is proceeding at a more dynamic pace. In many farms, work has been carried out in advance to prepare the soil for future spring sowing. "They plowed an additional 300 thousand hectares of land in winter. So today, the work for spring for farmers who were resourceful is less," noted the Deputy Prime Minister. As for the wintering of cattle, it went well this time, partly due to the absence of severe frosts.
As a positive fact in the work of the agro-industrial complex, an increase in the volume of agricultural production has been noted since the beginning of the year. In January 2025, it increased by 3.3% compared to the same period in 2024.
"Given the base they have, this is a good growth," noted the President.
