Summer dangers!

By strength, the wind is divided into:

  • weak  -  5 m/s - leaves and thin branches of trees are continuously swaying.
  • strong - 11-13 m/s - thick branches of trees sway, thin trees bend, umbrellas are used with difficulty.
  • sturdy - 14-17 m/s - telegraph wires hum, it is hard to walk against the wind.
  • storm  -  21-24 m/s - the wind knocks down trees, destroys buildings.

If you may be affected by adverse wind factors, then:

  • remove household items from the yard and balconies into the house (basement) in advance, trim dry trees that may cause damage to your home;
  • park the car in the garage, if there is no garage, the car should be parked away from trees and weakly secured structures;
  • if there is no emergency need, try not to leave buildings. It is necessary to close windows and not approach them closely;
  • outside, avoid shaky buildings and houses with unstable roofs, avoid trees and structures of increased risk (bridges, overpasses, pipelines, etc.);
  • do not try to hide behind public transport stops, advertising boards, under power lines and trees.

A thunderstorm is a no less serious natural phenomenon and poses the main danger of lightning strikes. In addition to ordinary linear lightning, ball lightning is sometimes observed.

During a thunderstorm:

  • if you are in a rural area close windows, doors, chimneys, and ventilation openings, do not light the stove, do not talk on the phone. During lightning strikes, do not approach electrical wiring, lightning rods, roof drains, antennas, do not stand near windows, if possible, turn off the TV, radio, and other electrical appliances;
  • if you are in the forest, take shelter in a low-growing area of the forest. Do not take shelter near tall trees, especially pines, oaks, and poplars. Do not stay in a body of water or on its shore. Move away from the shore, descend from elevated areas to lowlands. In the steppe, field, or in the absence of shelter (buildings), do not lie on the ground, but crouch in a hollow, ravine, or other natural depression, hugging your legs with your arms. Place metallic objects (motorcycle, bicycle, scooter, etc.) aside, and move away from them by 20-30 m. If a thunderstorm catches you in a car, do not leave it, while keeping the windows closed;
  • if you are in an open area, turn off your mobile phone, it is not recommended to use umbrellas, do not hide under tall trees (especially solitary ones);
  • if lightning strikes, first of all, you need to call an ambulance at 103, and undress the victim, pour cold water on their head and, if possible, wrap their body in a wet cold blanket. If they do not regain consciousness, artificial respiration "mouth to mouth" should be performed.

Recommendations for the population during hail

If possible, do not leave the house, while indoors, stay as far away from windows as possible. If you are outside, try to find shelter. If this is not possible, protect your head from hailstones (cover your head with your hands, bag, clothing). If you are moving in a car, stop driving. While in the car, stay away from the windows. It is advisable to turn your back to them (facing the center of the cabin) and cover your eyes with your hands or clothing.

Also, do not forget to follow safety rules while resting in nature. Swim and light fires only in specially designated areas. Do not leave preschool and younger school-age children unattended.
