How to protect yourself from theft on a train
The Orsha Department of Internal Affairs on Transport calls on citizens to be extremely careful when traveling by rail, to beware of fraudsters, to refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages during the journey, and to observe the rules of conduct at railway transport facilities.
In order to prevent thefts, the staff of the law enforcement and prevention department of the Orsha Transport Internal Affairs conducts regular preventive work. Police units are organized to accompany the most crime-prone international, interregional, and regional trains. Preventive inspections of railway transport facilities are carried out to ensure they are equipped with video surveillance systems and emergency police call devices. Preventive talks are regularly held in labor collectives.
Along with preventive measures, the department staff makes every effort to solve thefts on trains. The specificity of crimes in this category is that they are usually committed at night when passengers are resting. This significantly complicates the establishment of the time and section where the crime was committed and the identity of the perpetrator.
It is important to remember that your neighbor in the carriage may not only be a law-abiding citizen but also a traveling thief. Passengers are responsible for monitoring the safety of their belongings. At night, do not leave watches, small electronic devices, mobile phones, handbags, etc., on the tables.
If something is stolen during your journey, report the incident to the police unit accompanying the train through the carriage attendant or the train conductor, or to the duty station of the police at the nearest station. In suburban trains, you can report the incident to the driver via the internal "passenger-driver" communication system.
