Forum «We Live and Remember»: memory, patriotism and intergenerational dialogue in the Orshansky district

As part of the Republican marathon of youth and student initiatives, a large-scale patriotic forum "We Must Live and Remember" took place in the Orsha district. The event brought together representatives of the authorities, led by the chairman of the district executive committee Igor Moroz, and working youth in a symbolic location - the agrotown of Smol'yany, where heroic events of the Great Patriotic War unfolded in 1944.

The forum began with the ceremonial opening of an information banner at the crossing over the Adrov River, where on June 26, 1944, Guards Lieutenant Sergey Mikhailovich Mitt performed an immortal feat. The commander of the tank platoon, at the cost of his life, prevented the bridge from being blown up by the fascists by directing a burning vehicle at the enemy saboteurs. This allowed the Red Army troops to successfully continue their offensive.

Then the participants carried out landscaping of the area near the Brothers' grave of the victims of fascism in Smol'yany, paying tribute to all those who died during the war.

The next stage was a visit to the Military burial site of S.M. Mitt. A rally was held here, where Leonid Khmylov, the director of "Orshastroymaterials," spoke.

In memory of the hero, a capsule with soil from his small homeland - the village of Chernetsovo in the Novgorod region - was laid. This symbolic gesture emphasized the connection between generations and the importance of preserving historical truth.

The day concluded with an informal meeting on the shores of the lake in Smol'yany. In a warm atmosphere, by the fire, with soldier's porridge and tea, a dialogue platform took place. Issues of the development of the Orsha district, support for youth initiatives, and the importance of patriotic education were discussed. Songs from the war years were sung, memories of the feats of ancestors were shared, and plans for the future were made. This format allowed participants not only to honor the memory of heroes but also to strengthen the bond between generations.

The forum "We Must Live and Remember" became a vivid example of how historical memory unites people of different ages and professions. Through specific actions - the installation of memorial signs, the landscaping of military burials, and open dialogue - the youth of the Orsha district proved that the legacy of heroes is alive, and their feats remain a guide for new generations.

"We must remember the price at which peace was won and be worthy heirs of Victory" - this was the conclusion drawn by the participants of this significant event.
