Child seats in the car and headlights turned on. What the traffic police officers checked in a preventive raid in Vitebsk.
Driving with low beam headlights, rules for transporting children in cars - the employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate conducted a preventive raid in Vitebsk as part of the Unified Day of Road Safety, reports a BELTA correspondent.
In anticipation of the summer holidays, the traffic police are conducting preventive campaigns, organizing raids on the roads, not only to identify violators but also to remind all road users of safety rules and to prevent accidents. On this day in the regional center, traffic inspectors monitored that drivers were driving with their low beam headlights or daytime running lights on. Until June 5, a special set of events called "Attention - Children!" is being held in the republic. This is a preventive campaign aimed at preventing injuries to minors on the roads. Violation of this requirement results in a warning for the first offense and administrative responsibility and a fine of up to 3 basic units (1 basic unit - Br42) for the second offense.
"Today, a preventive event called "Safe Region" is also being held. Since morning, traffic police officers in all districts have been monitoring the road situation, identifying drunk drivers, unlicensed drivers, and those who drive into oncoming traffic. They also check how minor passengers are transported, whether there are child car seats or special restraint devices in the vehicles," said the head of the propaganda and agitation department of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee's traffic police, Nadezhda Kasperovich, reminding that a fine of up to 4 basic units is imposed for violating the rules for transporting children.
During the raid in the regional center, traffic police officers handed out books with traffic rules to drivers so that Vitebsk residents could refresh their knowledge. For children, they prepared gifts - brochures that explain road behavior rules in a playful manner.
"Since the beginning of the year, there have been two traffic accidents in the region resulting in the deaths of children - a passenger and a minor pedestrian who was crossing the road at a crosswalk. Last year, there were no such tragic incidents during the same period," Nadezhda Kasperovich shared.
In the evening, traffic inspectors will pay attention to pedestrians. "The State Traffic Inspectorate will pay attention to the condition of pedestrians, whether they have reflectors in the dark and how they cross the roadway. I would like to remind especially children who are going on vacation that they can only cross the road at pedestrian crossings, ensuring that there are no moving vehicles nearby," emphasized the head of the department.
She added that during the summer holidays, police officers will visit round-the-clock and daytime camps, and labor collectives with preventive activities. "We will conduct raids, including to identify violations when riding mobile means of transportation. We urge drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to be attentive and respect each other to preserve the life and health of all road users," Nadezhda Kasperovich stressed.
