Special preventive activity “Thin Ice”

In order to prevent accidents on the water during the ice melting period from March 10 to 16, a special preventive event "Thin Ice" will take place in the Orsha district. Emergency Ministry workers will intensify patrolling of water bodies and conduct explanatory talks with the population to remind them of the dangers of going onto the ice.

The necessity of such raids is dictated by alarming statistics. Reports are being updated with tragic cases that have occurred on water bodies. Rescuers note that spring temperature fluctuations lead to the ice not forming and strengthening in time. It becomes porous and loose, although it may still appear solid on the outside. Stepping onto such ice is deadly dangerous.

In this regard, the Emergency Ministry reminds of important rules: under no circumstances should you go onto the ice if its thickness is less than 7 centimeters. The strength of the ice can be determined visually: clear ice with a bluish tint is usually stronger than cloudy and white ice. Do not allow children to be near water bodies without adult supervision. Remember that curiosity and play near water often lead to irreparable tragedies.

Rescuers recommend that ice fishing enthusiasts refrain from going onto thin ice. If you still decide to go onto the ice, be sure to wear a life jacket. It can keep you on the water's surface until help arrives!

Dear citizens! Do not risk your life and health for dubious pleasures. Take care of yourself and your loved ones. In case of an emergency, immediately call 101 or 112.
