What to do if you find ownerless items
The police reminds about the rules of conduct when discovering suspicious objects.
If you discover an object that raises suspicion and is located in a place where a large number of citizens may be present or near an explosive and fire hazardous area, close to communications, you should take the following actions:
- immediately move to a safe distance and report the discovery of the suspicious object to law enforcement by calling 102 or the nearest police unit;
- if you find a suspicious object in a commercial establishment, do not create panic, report the discovery to the administration or security service;
- do not attempt to manipulate the object yourself: open, touch, or move it;
- until the arrival of special services, try to secure the suspicious object and the danger zone as much as possible;
- inform the arriving officers of the location of the dangerous find, the time, and the circumstances of its discovery.
It is important to remember: the appearance of the object can be deceptive and hide its true purpose. Ordinary household items may be used to conceal its true purpose: bags, packages, bundles, boxes, toys, and others.
