Boris Tikhamirov met with the staff of the Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant
On May 9, our country will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.
This is a significant date for every Belarusian. For eight decades, shells have not exploded on our land, and we all live under a peaceful sky, building the present and future of our Motherland, not forgetting the harsh lessons of the past. This topic became central during the meeting of a member of the Permanent Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on regional policy and local self-government, the head of the Orsha wagon depot of the Minsk branch of the Belarusian Railway, Boris Tikhamirov, as part of a unified information day with the workforce of the Orsha aircraft repair plant.
The senator acquainted the participants of the meeting with the facts of crimes committed by the Nazis and their accomplices during the Great Patriotic War, which became known thanks to the investigation by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Belarus of a criminal case.
According to the latest data, more than 578 death camps were organized by fascist punishers on the territory of our country. It has been proven that at least 187 large punitive operations were carried out. The destruction of at least 12,348 of our villages and settlements has been confirmed. The "sisters of Khatyn," completely burned along with their inhabitants and not revived after the war, became 288 villages. During the war, more than 380,000 people were taken from the territory of the BSSR, many of whom died from unbearable living conditions. Currently, 166 previously unknown sites of destruction and burial of civilians and prisoners of war have been established in Belarus, more than half of which are mass graves.
And new horrifying facts continue to emerge. Recently, near Lepel, thanks to the memories of witnesses, mass graves from the Great Patriotic War were discovered, and in each – burials in several tiers. The number of buried may reach 200 people.
– We will never forgive the cruelty and inhumanity of the Nazis. While in some countries there are persistent attempts to rewrite history, we must convey the whole truth about the genocide of the Belarusian and other peoples on the territory of our country. First of all, this must be done for our children and grandchildren, so that they know the value of peace and freedom, – noted Boris Tikhamirov.
