On April 8, employees of the military commissariats of the Republic of Belarus celebrate their professional holiday – a date that unites generations of specialists who stand guard over the country's defense capability and perform the most important state tasks.
The history of military commissariats dates back to April 8, 1918. On this day, the Council of People's Commissars adopted the Decree "On the Establishment of Volost, District, Provincial, and Regional Commissariats for Military Affairs." This document became the starting point for creating a system of military administration at the local level. Since its inception, military commissariats have been assigned key tasks: accounting for military personnel, organizing and conducting mobilization, conscripting citizens for military service, as well as their provision and training. In addition, commissariats managed troops designated to perform tasks in assigned territories.
The Orsha District Military Commissariat was established no later than June 1918. Its structure included several departments: general, accounting-mobilization, supply, propaganda-recruitment, formation, general military training, treasury, and commandant's offices. Even then, the foundations of clear and coordinated work were laid, which continue to this day.
Today, the military commissariat of the Orsha and Dubroven districts is headed by Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Chertkov. Under his leadership, the team successfully addresses the assigned tasks, combining long-standing traditions with modern approaches to work.
– Working in the military commissariat requires high responsibility, discipline, and dedication to the cause, – notes Ivan Viktorovich. – We not only fulfill tasks related to conscription and mobilization but also actively work with youth, instilling in them a sense of patriotism and respect for military service. This is an important part of our activity, as the future of the country depends on the youth.
Employees regularly visit educational institutions, hold thematic meetings, lessons of courage, and career guidance events, helping young people determine their life path and forming their civic position.
The military commissar also noted that active preparations are underway for the conscription of young men who have reached the age of 18 for compulsory military service. Conscripts are completing medical commissions, groups are being formed by branch of service and purpose, and deferments are provided in accordance with the legislation. By the end of April, the first dispatches to military units and formations will begin.
The professional holiday is not only an occasion to summarize results but also an opportunity to express gratitude to all employees of military commissariats for their work, responsibility, and contribution to ensuring the security of the state.
