On January 10, the exhibition "Amto (hello), Koryakia!" will open at the Orsha Ethnographic Museum "Melnitsa".
On January 10 at 15:00, the Orsha Ethnographic Museum "Melnitsa" will open an exhibition from the private collection of Lyudmila Kayurova titled "Amto (hello), Koryakia!" It is held with the support of the Representative Office of the Governor and the Government of the Kamchatka Territory under the Government of the Russian Federation.
In translation from the Koryak language, "amto" means "hello." Museum visitors will have the opportunity, without leaving the city, to get acquainted with the remarkably bright, original, and unique material culture of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North living in the territory of the Kamchatka Territory.
The exhibition features a variety of household, ethnographic, and ritual items, samples of decorative and applied arts made from the fur of reindeer, seal, walrus, leather, and beads, in the traditional manner of carving and engraving on bone, walrus tusk, and wood, as well as works by original Koryak artists with ethnographic themes.
Among the exhibits, you can see real rarities: a Koryak women's cutting knife, a collection of unique women's handbags for handicrafts made from the paws of wild geese, swans, ducks, fish skin, men's Koryak and Evenki tobacco pouches and a snuffbox, an ancient bone comb, ritual leather glasses, a family spear, and much more.
The exhibition will last until March 9 inclusive. Opening hours are from 10:00 to 18:00. Day off – Monday.
